Site Classfications
As part of the building permit
application process for
residential houses, generally a
Site Classification is required.
The purpose of a Site
Classification is to classify the
reactivity of a building site in
accordance with AS 2870
“Residential Slabs and
Footings”
Footing Inspections
Footing Inspections include
shallow and deep excavations,
proof rolls or piling inspections.
A general requirement of
signoffs and approvals of civil
and engineering works. Other
cases may be hold points in
ongoing civil constructions.
Basement
Investigations
Common developments
may be residential
apartments, new residential
builds or alterations and
additions involving deep
excavation works.
GEOTECHNICAL
INVESTIGATIONS
A more comprehensive
report generally dealing
with excavations which
extend beyond 1 m depth.
The report provides surface
and subsurface conditions,
guidance and
recommendations relating
to the proposed works.
ACID SULPHATE SOILS
The object of this
assessment is to determine
the potential and risk of the
presence of Acid Sulfate
Soils (ASS) on site in
accordance with the NSW
Acid Sulfate Soil
Management Advisory
Committee 1998 ‘The Acid
Sulfate Soils Manual’ and to
determine if an ASS
Management Plan is
required.
SALINITY SOILS
Concentrations of salt and
certain kinds of salt can
affect the lifespan of
materials such as bitumen,
concrete, masonry and
metal. This means any
development can be
affected if the site is
identified to be at risk of
saline soils, in particular
large areas of Western
Sydney.
Landslide Risk
Assessments
The Landslide Risk
Assessment (LRA) aims to
determine the risks associated
with the construction process
in relation to the risk to
property and human life. This
report is produced in
accordance with AGS 2007 –
‘Australian Geomechanics
Society’s Guidelines for
Landslide Risk Management'.
